It’s awards season again. While you’re probably not sashaying across the red carpet, you are walking that worn carpet in your office building day in and day out.
So we at Resourceful Finance Pro figured we’d bestow some awards for performances you’ve definitely seen: the most annoying co-worker behaviors.
Place your vote for the one you find most irksome in the comments section below and we’ll reveal the winner (or loser) in a future story. Or feel free to nominate one we missed:
- Least on-time employee in an office. It’s not only the last-minute dash into the office each day, but this person barges into every meeting five minutes after it’s started.
- Biggest drama queen (or king) in an office. Layoffs are coming! There are no bonuses this year! Whether you work with an alarmist person like this, or one works for you, you know how damaging – and contagious – the constant panic mode can be.
- Most annoying ring tone in the history of an office. Practically everybody has a cell phone these days. But does everybody’s cell phone play the Macarena when it rings? We bet you know someone’s whose does – or has a similarly annoying song. And chances are that phone starts ringing as soon as that person steps away from his or her desk.
- The least likely to accept responsibility in the office. “I wasn’t here that day.” “Allie said she was handling that.” “I didn’t even know about that project.” A credit hog may be a lot to take, but someone who never accepts any responsibility may be even tougher to deal with.
- The person with the most opinions in an office. You’re having a perfectly pleasant conversation with another co-worker when you see eyes peering out from the side of a cubicle. This person has an opinion on EVERYTHING and never hesitates to share it, whether it was welcomed or not. And beware: With election season this fall, you’re bound to get an even bigger earful.
- Most solicitations for you to open your wallet in the office. Candy bar sales, wrapping paper drives, the charity 5K fun run – this co-worker is constantly appealing for money. All good causes, for sure, but how many times can you be expected to pony up for them?
- The least considerate user of email in the office. Whether it’s hitting the reply-all button or forwarding every chain email and silly joke in cyberspace (or all of the above!) you can’t help but cringe when you see an email from this co-worker in your in-box.
