The final chapter of one of the most publicized overtime lawsuits in recent memory has been written – and there’s no happy ending for this employer.
Here’s what happened: Based on a class-action lawsuit dating back to 2006, Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corp., a U.S. division of a Swiss drugmaker, allegedly failed to pay around, 7,700 current and former sales reps any overtime for the hours they worked outside of the normal business day.
While Novartis insists its sales reps are properly classified as overtime exempt, the company has agreed to settle the lawsuit for $99 million.
