A new fiscal year has started for the feds, and IRS marked the occasion by announcing new per diem rates.
The changes (effective as of Oct. 1) impact the high-low substantiation rates and locations. They are now:
- $282/day ($68 for food) for the high, and
- $189/day ($57 for food) for the low.
Note: The list for high-cost localities has a number of changes.
Meanwhile, the rates for incidental expenses and the transportation industry will stay the same. As a
quick reminder on those amounts:
- per diem rate for incidental-expenses-only deduction: $5/day
- meals and incidental expenses for taxpayers in the transportation industry: $63/day in CONUS, $68/day for outside CONUS.
Scrutinize those changes
You’ll definitely want to check the new high-cost list, as there are a few additions that aren’t major cities.
