Keep ’em engaged: 4 ways to help performers continue performing

An employee’s engagement ultimately depends on the actual employee. But that doesn’t mean you can’t help your staff to feel more engaged and fulfilled with their daily routines.

Here are four proven ways to keep your staff engaged and productive during these trying times:

  1. Assign engaging tasks. The easiest way to keep workers engaged is to provide them with work that they find engaging. Granted, it’s not always that simple. But you should constantly be on the lookout for certain tasks that staffers would find interesting or challenging and include the tasks in their normal workloads.
  2. Keep them in the loop. Engagement and empowerment go hand in hand. Staffers who know what is going with their company and with their own performance are more likely to be genuinely interested in their work than those who are not.
  3. Give them the gavel. From time to time, it makes sense to let your staff step up and make some of the more important decisions. Increased responsibility can do wonders for an employee’s commitment, productivity and engagement with a job.
  4. Dole out praise. Everybody likes recognition for a job well done, no matter how small. And pointing the employee’s accomplishment out to the rest of the office will not only please the honored worker but it may motivate others.
Sending a congratulatory e-mail with the entire office CC’d or having a brief ceremony with refreshments afterward are two ways to do this.
