Whether you’re leading your own team or a collection of people from other departments on a project, here are two ways for keeping people enthused:
1. Set SMART goals at the very first meeting.
SMART stands for:
- specific
- measurable
- achievable
- results-oriented
- time-oriented
This doesn’t require a lot of time and effort. But keying in on one or two goals for any project boosts enthusiasm and camaraderie.
2. Encourage brainstorming.
Let everyone know their ideas are wanted. It may require you or other leaders stepping back and following some suggestions the group comes up with.
People take ownership of true “group” projects – where it’s not top-down and task-oriented.
One reminder: Thank group members for ideas that you don’t use.
