Most firms expect theft … from their own staff!

Talk about thinking the glass is half empty: The majority of small business execs actually expect their own workers to steal from them.

In fact, a full 54% of small business execs believe their workers will take company funds, equipment, inventory or merchandise during the course of the upcoming year.

That’s according to the recent Chubb Private Company Risk Survey.

Perhaps the most interesting finding in the survey is that despite their predictions, just 30% of the small businesses said they have actually experienced employee theft over the last five years.

In addition, employee theft was viewed as the second-most financially damaging event that could happen to a company. So what’s the most damaging event? Small business execs said an employment practices liability lawsuit.

Readers, has employee theft occurred at your company? What does your firm do to prevent this type of problem?
