Good news: Soon you’ll have the option of using same-day ACH.
According to the Electronic Payment Association, the rule change that would allow for same-day ACH is an upcoming scheduled change to the NACHA Operating Rules.
The effective date is Sept. 23, 2016.
As of that date, if an originating financial institution (ODFI) submits a credit entry for same-day processing to a receiving financial institution (RDFI) by 10:30 a.m., the transaction will be settled at 1 p.m. Submissions received by 2:45 p.m. will be settled at 5 p.m. That’s Eastern Time. Note: Same-day debit entries will be available in 2017.
A question for your bank
What to do: Although all RDFIs will be required to receive same-day ACH transactions, ODFIs don’t have to offer the service to customers. You could ask your bank now whether the service will be available to you.
