When scores of media sites and blogs began lampooning this bank’s extensive dress code, it was only a matter of time before the lender made some changes.
Andreas Kern, a spokesman for Swiss bank UBS, recently issued a statement saying the bank was “reviewing what is important to us” and that it would issue a “pared-down” dress code with “more general guidelines.”
Despite the worldwide mockery the UBS dress code caused the company, Kern believes it’s good for the bank’s overall reputation because: “Everyone knows the staff in our banks strive for the perfect look.”
As mentioned in a previous Resourceful Finance Pro story, the bank’s dress code includes a slew of overly detailed requirements about employees’ appearance.
For example, the booklet advises women employees on how to apply makeup, what kind of perfume to wear, not to show roots if they color their hair and, of course, to only wear flesh-colored underwear.
Male employees have similarly stringent requirements about their ties, beards and the appropriate time frame for getting a haircut.
