There are a slew of benefits when it comes to using temporary employees. But there are plenty of obstacles as well — especially if your department is mostly full-time employees.
Experienced managers know how to get the job done. When it comes to managing temps, here are three proven tactics that work regardless of the size or industry of your company:
1. A full orientation. To assimilate temp workers as seamlessly as possible in your company, it’s important for them to feel like they belong. A proper orientation — complete with introductions to staffers they’ll be working with and periodic check-ins — is an essential part of this.
2. All necessary resources. It happens all the time: When companies are short on supplies/resources, temps end up getting shorted. If temp employees aren’t armed with all the necessary tools to do their jobs, productivity and morale will suffer.
3. Invitations to work — and non-work — functions. Most managers make sure to include temporary workers at all necessary meetings. But it pays to take it a step further. If your Finance department goes out for happy hour at the end of the week, make sure to extend the invitation to temp workers, as well.
