Old Man Winter is coming and bringing sky-high heating bills with him. Now’s a perfect time for a refresher on practical measures that add up to serious relief.
Here are four proven, everyday ways to save money on your heating bills:
- Temperature test. Most office thermostats are set at 72 degrees Fahrenheit in the winter time. But that number isn’t set in stone. Try turning your heat down by one or two degrees. If no one complains, you’re in business. Keeping your thermostat a degree or two lower adds up and creates a significantly lower bill over the course of an entire winter.
- Infrared thermometers. Use these devices to check for areas where the most heat is escaping, and then seal up any cracks around your office building. The thermometers can be purchased, leased or you can outsource the job to someone else.
- HVAC efficiency checks. At least 2-3 times a year, efficiency checks should be made to an office’s HVAC system. Why? The harder your system has to work to heat your building, the higher your heating costs will be.
- Keep the shades open. It seems like common sense, but many people don’t get the most out of Mother Nature. Letting the sun help warm up the office means the heating system doesn’t have to work as hard.
