If your company is adding headcount soon, be prepared: Job candidates are more than comfortable haggling over salary.
That’s the word from a recent Robert Half International survey.
In the survey, employees were asked “How comfortable would you be negotiating for a higher salary or better benefits with an employer who has offered you a job?” An impressive 81% said they’d be comfortable asking for more than what was offered.
Here’s the complete breakdown:
- 44% said they’d be Very Comfortable
- 37% would be Somewhat Comfortable
- 17% said they be Not at All Comfortable, and
- 2% Didn’t know.
If your company can’t compete with the big guys on pay, it’s a good idea to talk about your benefits package or stress any unique perks you offer (flexible scheduling, on-site gym, extra vacation time, etc.) during the job interview process.
