We’ve all coveted that much-needed afternoon sugar rush, but forking over enough to take home a new car might not be worth the green.
The last bag of “pic ‘n’ mix” candy from a Woolworths drug store that closed in Britain late last year sold for nearly $21,000. The candy was put up for auction on eBay, with all proceeds going to the Retail Trust — a non-profit organization dedication to helping laid-off workers from the popular chain.
Ed Adams, former manager of the store, outbid the competition in the last minutes of the online auction. “I am really proud and excited to see such an enormous sum has been raised for the last bag of ‘pic ‘n’ mix’,” said Adams.
The loose candy, weighing in at nearly two pounds, contained Turkish delight, cola bottles, pineapple cubes and similar snacks.
