These days, large scale layoffs or reductions in force are commonplace. But when the people being laid off all seem to belong to the same group, it tends to draw the attention of the feds.
Everybody’s been there – in the heat of the moment you fire off an email that you wish you never hit send on. But is that enough to get you fired? Or to fire someone in your finance department?
When companies have to resort to reductions in force (RIFs), those RIFs can vary from a few unlucky workers to a huge chunk of employees. But in this case, the “reduction” involved just one staffer.
Granted, all kids do dumb things from time to time, but the majority of these stupid exploits don’t make national news. While this college student’s father was probably furious over his daughter’s social media activity, chances are his former employer was thrilled by it.
It’s not 1975 anymore, but in many cases women are still earning less than their male counterparts. And that can be a problem for Finance. (Though it isn’t always.)
