Even Donald Trump wouldn’t approve of the way Microsoft announced mass layoffs last month.
New CEO Satya Nadella had an admittedly unpleasant task on his plate: Letting approximately 18,000 employees across the globe know they’d be losing their jobs soon.
The chief did the deed – though not without offending a lo-o-ot of people.
Why? Let’s count the ways:
1. Microsoft announced the pending layoffs in an office memo …
2. … with the bad news buried in the 2nd paragraph …
3. … and released the memo publicly before employees could digest the bad news.
Sheesh. Well when you’re Microsoft, news like this will get out one way or another. Laying off roughly 14% of your total workforce is a big deal.
But we’d bet the folks losing their jobs wish the CEO had used a little more tact!
